UK Targets Shadow Fleet, LNG vessels, and Evasion Networks

The UK announced a new sanctions package targeting Russia’s shadow fleet, military procurement networks, and financial channels used to evade Western sanctions. The measures include sanctions on more than 20 oil tankers, ship insurers, GRU-linked companies and officers, third-country suppliers in China, Thailand, and Türkiye, and entities facilitating illicit financial transactions, including the A7 sanctions evasion network. The UK also became the first G7 country to sanction several LNG vessels supporting Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 project, aiming to further restrict Russia’s energy revenues and military procurement capabilities.
